DIY Body Butter: How to Create Homemade Skincare

Updated: Oct 14

When I think back to my childhood, I remember the comforting routine of my Mother and Grandmother applying Vaseline on my skin. It was a simple yet effective method of skincare that I carried with me into adulthood. However, as I entered my teenage years and beyond, I found myself curious about the wide array of skincare products available on the market. This curiosity led me to experiment with different brands such as Cocoa Butter, Nivea, and various high-street store brands. I must admit that

I was initially more drawn to the external factors of a skincare product.

Attractive packaging, affordability, and brand reputation played a significant role in my purchasing decisions. I didn't pay much attention to whether a cream was specifically formulated for the body or face Looking back, I realise that my skincare journey was guided more by external influences rather than a deep understanding of what my skin truly needed. It was a journey marked by exploration and trial-and-error, with a focus on the superficial aspects of skincare products.

As an adult just before I started my sophieamornatural business I became conscious of what I ate and strived for a more healthy lifestyle. I consumed more organic foods and avoided processed sugary foods. I had never really considered that our bodies absorb what we put on our skin much like they absorb what we put in our mouths. All of my product ingredients from sophieamornatural are sourced from Africa without harsh chemicals such as Sulphates, Parabens, , and Oxybenzones.

Shea Body Butter

Shea Body Butter can be made in various ways this is my version. You can opt out of some ingredients. I highlighted the optional ingredients and cooking appliances.

Tip :

When it comes to blending the body butter, you have a couple of options . One method is to use a hand mixer, which can be convenient for smaller batches and offers more control over the blending process. However, if you are working with larger quantities or simply want to save your arms from getting tired, a stand mixer might be the better choice.

The stand mixer results in a smooth body butter.

What Is The Shelf Life Of Homemade Body Butter? When it comes to homemade body butter made with natural ingredients, ensuring its longevity and effectiveness requires proper storage and care. The ingredients in our homemade natural body butter recipe are all-natural, which means they are sensitive to temperature and can melt if exposed to heat. To maintain its quality, it's essential to store the body butter in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight.
