Transforming Mindset: How 2021 Has Uplifted My Attitude

Updated: Oct 19, 2024

The next part of my life is going to be the best of my life. I plan to see the beauty in every day and I will focus on my blessings rather than my shortcomings. I am aware that every day will not be great, but I have to have faith and believe that bad days and situations will always be temporary. Life is just easier when you are happy stress can cause medical and physical concerns.

Resilience

I can't help but reflect on the incredible resilience of my family, who left their homeland in pursuit of a better life.Back in the 1980s, my family took a giant leap of faith by moving from Uganda to the UK. They didn't just leave behind the familiar faces of parents, family friends, and the comforting embrace of their customs; they left behind their entire lives. What awaited them in the UK was a world vastly different from what they had known. Life wasn't a walk in the park for them; it was more like navigating a maze blindfolded. Multiple jobs, long hours, and tight budgets were the norm. Why? To make ends meet and, beyond that, to support their loved ones back in Uganda. The sacrifices they made were immense, and their resilience was unwavering. As I listen to my mother, aunts, and uncles share their stories, I can't help but notice the stark contrast between their experiences and the attitudes I often encounter today.

It makes me appreciate the perspective my family instilled in me. Life is full of disappointments, curveballs, and unexpected twists. But instead of crumbling under the weight of every setback, perhaps it's time we draw inspiration from those who faced much greater challenges and prevailed. The resilience embedded in my family's story is a testament to the strength that lies within each of us. So, let's take a page from their book, embrace challenges, and remember that sometimes, it's not the end of the world—it's just a chapter in the story of life.

  • Loss of a job

  • Body image issues

  • Exam stress

  • Financial stress

  • Too much mental health/feelings talk?

I think at some point most people have struggled with their mental health, some more than others, however . People are supposed to go through ups and downs, not every situation has to be related to mental health. Although there are some genuinely experiencing mental health issues, I believe there are those who just use mental health symptoms language such as "I have social anxiety" etc over any situation, every other day words such "hit rock bottom" "I can't go on" has become very normalised. Sure, we all have our ups and downs, and some folks deal with serious stuff, but not every bad day

Alright, let's dive a bit deeper into this societal circus we're all juggling. It's like we're playing a game where the rules keep changing, and the pressure is on from all sides. You've got to have the perfect body, score straight A's, and somehow keep up with the Kardashians, or whatever the latest trend is. And don't get me started on social media it's a whole other beast. You've got influencers and celebs flaunting their supposedly flawless lives, bodies airbrushed to the heavens. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here wondering if we missed the memo on how to look effortlessly fabulous while sipping on a kale smoothie.

Living in the Western world sometimes feels like we're stuck in a never-ending loop of "Me, Me, Me." It's all about appearances and keeping up with the Jones's. But you know what? I've had enough of that noise. I've made a conscious decision to flip the script on this happiness game. For me, it's not about the perfect body or the latest gadgets. No, no. Happiness, my friend, is a state of mind, a peace that comes from deep down. In a world that's hooked on perfection and this constant hustle for more, I've found joy in just being me. Screw the societal standards and the comparison game.
